Robotics
Ok, let’s face it: I don’t do a lot of “robot” stuff at home anymore. Why? I do enough of it at work these days, and anyway, I actually am not a big fan of making distinctions between hobbies. It’s not about robots or rockets or anything else in particular, it’s about the pursuit of knowledge and trying to make things that I consider cool at the time. That’s it! Anyway, here’s the old page because I haven’t updated it:
This page is reserved for some of the robotics stuff I’ve done. Coming soon, if I ever get off my butt and do it.
My big project right now is Gunther (pronounced “goon-tehr”). Essentially I’m trying to build a capable outdoor robot that improves upon Johan (my last major robot project). It will also be the first robot I’ve built myself that has a real MPU rather than just some microcontrollers. This will allow me to write higher-level software in Java (if it proves worthwhile), which should significantly help things along. The other big thing is that Gunther will be capable of launching rockets from a rocket pod on his back! That’s the idea anyway. I’ll have to put more info later when I have time (hah!).
Arnold’s First Steps – For now, here’s a short video clip of Arnold, a robot I cobbled together to test out an accelerometer product I was developing. The design is a holonomic one, so it can drive in any direction without needing to rotate.
